Lake County High School Technology Campus
WAUKEGAN, IL – September 27, 2005 – JJH provided students
in the Building Trades program at Lake County High School Technology
Campus the opportunity to tour a working JJH construction site to view
a number of trades in action. When the Lake County Contractors Association
(LCCA) and the Lake County High School Technology Campus joined forces
to organize this tour of nearby construction sites, they looked for
quality union contractors whose personnel could answer students’
questions and provide an instructional experience.
LCCA called on JJH who offered to open the Fountain Square Pump Station,
in Waukegan, IL, to the tour group. Approximately 120 students, from
several local high schools, toured the site in three groups accompanied
by school officials, and Gary Dowty, Executive Vice President of LCCA
and originator of the event. The JJH Fountain Square Pump Station offered
students an opportunity to see the assembling of large concrete water
tanks and the construction of the pump station. Some of the trades on-site
were mechanical, electrical and masonry. David Grum, Safety Coordinator
for JJH, and Pete Hall, on-site Superintendent took each group of students
through the site, pointing out the ongoing work and fielding questions.
Jim Fisher, Natgun Corp., gave the orientation on the assembling of
the large concrete water tank. The presenters offered a great deal of
information in a limited amount of time and solicited questions from
the students to keep them involved.
