| Description: |
Several decades of partnership between
our firms showcases JJH’s diverse abilities. Work at Pfanstiehl
Laboratories encompasses office space, production areas, testing
facilities and warehouse environments for their specialty chemical
production business.
One of the more recent projects included a 7,500 square foot
explosion-proof warehouse and production facility designed to
withstand an explosive force of 225 pounds per square foot and
constructed of cast-in-place concrete heavily reinforced by rebar
sized up to #10. Imbedded steel beam sections, some of which
span 50 feet and weigh nearly 113 pounds per linear foot, have
fully welded connections to the roof framing. Approximately 1,100
cubic yards of concrete was used to complete the structure. A
sliding 10’ x 10’ horizontal door, similar in fabrication
to doors used by the military to stop missiles, provides protection
to the dock area. A roof monitor and blow-out panels were fabricated
on the job. This pressure relief system will detach from the
steel framework at a pressure of 20 pounds per square foot and
yet remain attached to the building by steel cables. Beneath
the site are four buried tanks: three 10,000 gallon tanks and
one 18,000 gallon tank.
