| Description: |
This project originated in 1988 after the
extensive flooding of Salt Creek in 1987 completely flooded the
wastewater treatment plant putting it temporarily out of service.
Once the floodwaters were under control, the City of Elmhurst
had all the tanks and critical electrical components raised two
feet higher than the highest level of floodwaters. The expansion
of the wastewater treatment plant to its present capacity was
done at the same time. Due to limited land availability, this
expansion had to be constructed within the existing facilities.
Extensive sheeting and shoring was required to protect the existing
structures and piping. Temporary pumping and process systems had
to be installed and maintained to insure that the effluent quality
would not be compromised during the plant upgrade. The wastewater
treatment plant consists of eight screw pumps, ten aeration basins,
four primary clarifiers, six secondary clarifiers, three tertiary
clarifiers, and two anaerobic digesters.
JJH has maintained a solid relationship with the City of Elmhurst
over the last 20 years, building multiple projects totaling more
than $25 million including several design-build projects with
Lintech Engineering LLC.
