| Description: |
Located on the beautiful shores of Lake
Michigan, the first ultrafiltration water treatment plant in the
state of Illinois is featured in a showcase plant. The project
was completed in 26 months, on time and under the City’s
budget. The new building was built within one of their underground
sedimentation basins after shoring was completed on two sides
to protect the surrounding hills. It contains eight new ultrafiltration
units and is designed for future expansion, including skylights
and floor openings to get the new units into the building. The
building also includes various pumps, HVAC equipment, pre-filter
strainers, the surge control tank, the chemical feed system, and
two water storage tanks. The translucent panel system created
a beautiful transition from the old building to the new, and houses
the new laboratory and control room. Five new high-lift pumps,
four low-lift pumps, new switchgear, variable frequency drives,
and two 2500 kw generators were housed within the existing building
after modifications of the old sand filter system.
